Episode #1155 13.05.19 - Hamada's 50th Birthday part 2

The 2nd part to last week’s episode. *Low quality and higher quality versions in download link.

If you want a little more incite to the ending, check Matsumoto’s twitter (@matsu_bouzu) because he’s made a couple tweets on how he feels about it.

Also, I found this posted on 2chan. It seems to be whatever could be caught from the reading of Matsumoto’s letter and what the viewer could read from camera shots of the page. If anyone wants to give a brief translation that would be cool.

Someone responded to the comment with this:
>「(字汚くて読めない)」さん=「駐在」さん
「さんまの花の駐在さん」の事で、この後の展開はおそらく

折角決まった「さんまの花の駐在さん」を浜ちゃんが無断欠席して降ろされた話へと続いてと思われる

Looks like they were correcting something, but I'm not sure. There's a couple more posts like that.

we need a short summary for this episode for the one who can’t understand japanese
Please and Thanks

:D

I kind of agree with a lot of what people are saying in http://toro.2ch.net/test/read.cgi/tv/1368534128/ .
Maybe not reading the letter was the best choice. I think the contents were simply too personal for Matsumoto to read (or have someone read). Still, I feel cheated since they teased the letter constantly during the past two weeks.

If we are extremely lucky, the eltter may be revealed some time in the future, but I wouldn’t count on it.

Hey Giffan,

where did you source the higher quality version? I can’t find it on Youku or Pandora. The bigger of the two files I couldn’t download for some reason :(

God damnit Matsumoto, you big pansy. Stop making it into such a big deal.

The better quality one is in two parts, did you download both parts and extract them? Anyway, I think the fc2 link from the streaming site I linked to has the higher quality version. Youku has it up now too, or it did last time I checked.

I cant seem to download the HQ 2 parts version… It keeps saying that I’ve reach my limit of downloading, which is 10 files per week… when i havent been using the website for the past 2 months ~_~.
Would appreciate if you can upload to a different host. I personally like mediafire but the recent change kind of make me feeling iffy about ever using their hosting website again

Matsumoto :D I was really looking forward to his letter, but I suppose I do understand why he didn’t want to read it. They’ve known each other for almost 45 years according to Matsumoto, so a serious letter like that is probably very personal :)

In any case, here’s again summaries of each letter:

Endo told how Cocorico had long ago been troubled most of all by the lack of any special characteristics. This prompted him to seek advice from Hamada, who had then arranged them to have a personal meeting. Hamada’s advice was that Endo could just "follow" him, and Hamada would help him by making it clear to other staff etc. that Endo was his protege. After Endo got divorced and worried that this might soil his reputation, Hamada again offered his council. He told Endo that he should bear all the blame like "a true man", and not attempt to make any excuses in public. Finally Endo asked that Hamada would continue supporting him, and stated that hopefully by Hamada’s 60th birthday he shall have become a bit more reliable and able to support Hamada from time to time.

Yamazaki recalled how 12 years ago he had gotten married, and had held a large and succesful wedding party which Hamada and Matsumoto also participated in. Late that night, when the party had already ended, Yamazaki and his new wife had a big quarrel. They were still going through the wedding presents they had received earlier, and Yamazaki came along Hamada’s present. Since it was from Hamada he thought it would probably be something quite expensive, but instead he found inside a 500 yen kid’s toy coupon. Yamazaki and his wife couldn’t help but to laugh at this surprising discovery, and with their moods improved soon made up. The next day Hamada would also give a more proper wedding present. Yamazaki also declares that people calling Hamada the "big S" surely mean s as in suteki (wonderful), not s in sadistic.

And here’s my take on what little is shown of Matsumoto’s letter:

"To Hamada:

It has been 30 years since the formation of Downtown.

Thinking back on it, this relationship that we now share was not something we were blessed from birth. It was something that grew as the years went on.

During those years long ago, we too had our first time as regulars on a tv show."

Matsumoto jokes that he can only read the letter after Hamada’s death, though he also notes that he might die first. Later he mentions that it might be all right for some staff member to present the letter another time, or that he might read it himself during the end of the year celebration.

Thank you 0504!!
D’aww. So nice. :)

If you haven’t seen it already the documentary for the stage play about Downtown’s early career also has early photos and videos of them from before Gaki no Tsukai.

I’ll get a working download for the higher quality up. Sorry about that, I didn’t realize it was a split archive problem with mediafire

Team Gaki plan to sub the Hamada Birthday episode in the future.

As for videos on this forum in general, unless it says "Subbed" in the title or has the orange "Subbed" tag, then its not subbed. Since unfortunately the majority aren’t subbed, subbed episodes are the exception that are tagged as such.

Many subbed episodes can be found in this thread:
