Episode #1287 2016.01.10 - Endo Verification VTR

This week is a double header of sorts; at 11pm Japanese time, NTV are showing a Hamada Bamyu Bamyu special summarizing how the persona was created and the things that happened afterwards. The actual first episode of the new year at its usual time of 11:25pm involves the gang being shown a VTR that was taken of Endo and some strange behavior he was showing during either the batsu game taping or the actual TV broadcast on New Year’s Eve (not sure about that part).

Now that I’ve seen the episode, the summary can be cleared up (spoiler alert if you haven’t watched it yet):
[hide:288ed206]- In short, this was meant to be a VTR for the batsu game but didn't make the final cut

• Because of Endo's role as a commentator on a Kansai regional program called 'Kashikobutteiru' (similiar to Matsumoto on Wide na Show), despite the fact he plays an idiotic character on Gaki no Tsukai, the Gaki staff decide to play a little prank on him to see just how well he can go in discussing current affairs issues with other intellectuals.
• He is placed on a Nico Nico Douga program with six other people. Former NHK announcer Hori Jun is the host. The other five people are Kishi Hiroyuki (a media commentator), Takei So (a sports personality), Sakura Yuki (an idol), Hojo Kaya ( a former cabaret hostess) and Kimura Masaki (a neet). Although Endo is told that the latter three people don't have experience on TV and therefore may need help, they all actually have strong backgrounds; the idol is a Todai (University of Tokyo) student, the hostess is a book writer and the neet has a great interest in current affairs.
• Throughout the show, they are presented topics to talk about and Endo becomes increasingly embarrassed as he is shown up by everyone on the panel. He attempts to explain himself in his views but gives rather simple explanations and eventually tries to hide his answer on his panel so he won't get called out for an explanation.[/hide:288ed206]

In the end, the last closing seconds of the episode describe how this episode went for Endo; he tries using a quote/tagline? from the Japanese version of the movie Forrest Gump to describe his predictions for how Japan will go in 2016, before admitting that he doesn’t know what the phrase means nor has he watched the movie before.
