Recording hardware

Hello everyone, I’m here to ask a question to those people that record TV Shows from the TV (The so famous ‘‘TvRips’’):

What device do you use to record things from a Digital TV Cable Box? I own a Magnavox DVD Recorder, but it’s tedious to buy many DVD’s, altough it records in a very nice quality, but I want to switch to a USB TV Tuner.

I also want to know if it’s compatible with Windows 8 since I saw some USB Tuners don’t work with Windows 8 as they refuse to be detected by the PC.

Thank you all and have a nice day or night :)

I’m using two BLU-RAY DISC/DVD RECORDERs for recording TV programs.

My Procedure to Upload

  1. Recording TV Programs
  2. Copying it to Blu-ray Disc
  3. Ripping it from Blu-ray Disc
  4. Editing (cut out commercials) and Encoding
  5. Uploading files to MEGA

Sounds like a complete odyssey doing all that, Ernie.
And how could you record 2 TV Shows that airs almost inmediately after other show you ere recording?

My recorders are Panasonic DMR-BR130 (single tuner model) and SONY BDZ-EW1000 (double tuner model).

It’s easy to record consecutive TV programs.

I see… And how do you edit your videos right after they were originally aired?
Sorry, I’m very interested on this I have many questions

My Ripping Tool: AnyDVD HD

My Editing & Encoding Tool: TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5

I saw the tool that you use to encode your videos and it seems it will run very slow on my PC or maybe not. Do you still recommend it for my PC? Or shall I stick to Sony Vegas?

Maybe try the trial?

I reckon if you can run Sony Vegas (which is resource intensive on my old PC) then it’s a worth shot. Otherwise I think you’d be fine sticking with Sony Vegas.

I can run Vegas Pro 10, but when I render a video (NOT IN HD) takes from 10 minutes to even an hour sometimes. Maybe is because I render videos from 5 minutes to some 43 - minute shows.

Oh, [b:1g5trgi6]Ernie[/b:1g5trgi6], how much did both recorders you mentioned earlier cost?

Oh, when I said "slow" I meant the actual software runs slow, when not rendering, since my PC doesn’t have a lot of RAM.
I don’t tend to render anything larger than 5 minutes, longer durations would certainly take far longer on my hardware. People who do video editing as a career generally have higher spec hardware than mine e.g. 8~16GB RAM, multi core CPU, SSD drive etc.

I don’t do it for career, I mostly do it because I want to share some videos
Either that, or I will have to downgrade to Vegas Pro 9 :(

Panasonic DMR-BR130: 29,000 JPY
SONY BDZ-EW1000: 47,600 JPY

The both models are not producing now.

And there aren’t any other similar models in stores now? (Preferably Sony, because I like Sony)

The similar latest SONY model is BDZ-EW1100.

Probably you cannot use this outside of Japan.

Apparently I can’t use this in Mexico since it’s not mentioned in the territories that use ISDB… :(

Try asking about Bluray / DVD Recorders on video forums with a more US-based community:

For anyone in UK/Europe these forums are best:

I will try to ask if there are some Blu-Ray Recorders like the ones Ernie owns, but that are NTSC-Friendly so I don’t deal with the ISDB thingie. Thanks a lot :)
