I always thought karai meant spicy, and that if you wanted to say salty, you had to say shioppai! I guess from context, how could miso coffee not be salty?
I had salty tea once at the company onsen. My wife told me that it was made from cherry blossoms, so I expected it to be a bit like rosehip tea. It was also supposed to be good for me. I took a swig and wanted to spit it out, but the gaijin guest has to always be super polite. I finished it, pretending it was chicken broth.

Maybe it has to do something with japanese culture, like, they tend to take purple (I think) as the color of the death. Not sure if that is the color or it was another.

Aka is red. There was an error in the subtitles. What Tsukitei Hosei actually said is "Akan", which is a way to say unacceptable or something like that. I think it's slang or Osaka-ben. I think the "proper" way to say it would be chigau.

Downtown used to do a show called Akan Keisatsu. The Unacceptable Police or whatever. Part of the show would discuss the peculiar favourite foods of guest celebrities. The other panelists would determine whether these food items were acceptable or not by holding up cards which said "akan" or "akan ku nai" (unacceptable or not unacceptable).
