Hello,

Welcome to the forum!

Wow you know both English and Japanese? I know it’s a lot to ask but have you ever considered subbing Gaki no Tsukai? There’s a lot of unsubbed episodes so the community is always in sore need of people who can translate. If you don’t know how to sub stuff I’d be happy to explain.

But don’t worry if you’re not able to, I can understand what with other commitments and such, just enjoy what’s here on the forum!

Best regards.

Welcome to the forum! :D

If something doesn’t say "subbed" or have a .ass / .srt file then it’s not subbed, so whatever takes your fancy!

There’s a number of options (I’ll break it up so I don’t overload with info!)

Not doing typesetting / timing:

[hide:1u33qyyi]You may be able to find someone else to do typesetting / timing, Team Gaki[/url:1u33qyyi] is a volunteer-based group anyone can join, volunteer translators pair up with volunteer typesetters / timers. Right now everyone is busy there tackling the Detectives special but I do actually have some Gaki episodes I timed / typeset and sent to Team Gaki that is on hold, I could ask for those if you want some stuff you can just translate without worrying about typesetting/timing.

If just translating then you can open the subtitle file in Aegisub[/url:1u33qyyi], drag and drop the raw video onto Aegisub (to open that). You then have the video top left and lines for each bit of dialogue for you to fill with English below. If you click the little blue Auto button under the video, then selecting a line jumps to where it's said in the video. The other buttons left of the Auto button also let you play just that line to hear it etc. Here's a screenshot with some hastily drawn guidelines:

[img:1u33qyyi]http://i.imgur.com/otdd4Cy.jpg[/img:1u33qyyi]

If Aegisub etc. seems too daunting then you could just type down what each person is saying as you listen as a transcription e.g.
M- What is that?
H- Nothing.
(M for Matsumoto, H for Housei or whatever you like that's short to type)

Then someone could open those lines in Aegisub and time / typeset them or copy-paste them. Whatever works![/hide:1u33qyyi]

Doing timing/typesetting:

[hide:1u33qyyi]If you do the timing / typesetting yourself then you also use Aegisub. You can set keyboard shortcuts for where in the video a line of dialogue begins and ends (that's timing). Basic typesetting is just styling the text (e.g. red for Matsumoto), or dragging it into position (e.g. some text in a box top left) which Aegisub provides the tools for.

You set your shortcuts in Aegisub via the View > Options menu, >here's how<[/url:1u33qyyi] I have mine set (using a game controller is an optional thing I explained how to set up >here<[/url:1u33qyyi]).

I have some tutorial videos on Youtube that just show me going through the process (turn on Annotations for explanations):

Tutorial 3 - Adjusting Youtube Automatic Captions (optional)[/url:1u33qyyi]
Tutorial 4 - Typesetting & Timing with a Transcript[/url:1u33qyyi]

Also an image I did a while back pointing out key things in Aegisub:

Anyway, just let me know whatever sounds best if anything, but again no obligation to do anything.

Where should I post Finished videos?
also where could i find a Type setter (i tried doing it)
Where should I post Finished videos?[/quote:1lk85l27]

You can make a thread on this forum (in Videos > Gaki):

viewforum.php?f=10

Here’s an example:

viewtopic.php?f=10&t=6144

You can upload the subbed video to MEGA.co.nz and share a download link and/or upload it to Dailymotion for streaming (but stuff has started to get taken down there though so it’s 50/50).

Some also post about it to Reddit:

I have their 3rd Retro Gaming episode typeset if that sounds fun to do? Here’s the first one subbed if you wanna see the theme:

http://vk.com/video-7016284_170833586

Can’t remember if the 2nd got subbed, but I jumped on typesetting / timing the 3rd because they play a fighting game against each other which I figured would be in demand.

Let me know if you wanna do and I’ll tell the person at Team Gaki I handed it to first, they’re super busy working on No Laughing Detectives so I don’t think they’ve gotten to it yet.

If you want to hook up with others to do the typesetting for you Team Gaki is the best bet, they have some other projects already typeset that are on hold until Detectives is finished, after Detectives there should be more in future. There are a few ways to contact them e.g. on Facebook:

Welcome to the forum!

Remember, Team Gaki isn’t the only subbing group around and if you happen to find a typesetter somewhere else, you are free to create your own little hobby group.

Tofupanda fansubs usually have many more typesetted episodes than translated, meaning we are always in need of a translator. So if you’re interested in getting some work as soon as possible, please send me an email at "Tofupandahost@gmail.com".

All groups work together anyway if needed, so you’ll be able to have contact with DTRsubs and Team Gaki if needed.

Soudou posted awesome illustrations of how translating works in aegisub. Every member in TPF gets an in-depth introduction and ongoing guides to aegisub.

If you’re interested, let me know (:
