Thanks Ernie. At first I thought they were going to rate Viking restaurants, so I was really interested. I can still remember the Vikings I ate at in Japan. Tanaka has convinced me to make Hayashi tonight.

Thank you very much, greatly appreciated. :D

This seriously needs a sub ;) ;)

Thank you for the weekly uploads

Just make either Team Gaki, Shibata or someone else sub the weekly episodes and there you go. :P

i think we might have discussed this years ago :D :D :D the conversation always ends with: "too much work for anyone to commit weekly without pay" :tmi: :tmi: :tmi:

I’m sure anyone who has time and likes the episode can take the time to sub.

It’s weird that the same anime gets picked by a lot of different fansubs and real life things like this and doramas rely on small groups or individual people doing the subs :(

If the person/people who rip the episodes would rip the subtitles too (I assume japan has subtitles on tv for this, for deaf people and things like that) then at least we could have a machine translation for every episode

Seems like being a gourmet reporter in Japan is an art form. When I visited Japan almost every other show had something to do with food and those presenters handle it smoothly compared to these guys.

You know what, thats not a bad idea. japan probably has Closed Captions synchronized for the deaf. not like the CC you find on youtube, but something revised and very accurate.

I have absolutely no idea where to get hold of Captions from a tv box. Maybe a little research online could help.
Then maybe I can make a post about it and ask fans from japan to perform the task. not the translation, just the captions rip. the translation can be taken care of later.

When I recorded something with my TV recorder, if I remember right, it captured all the streams from the TV. Multiple audio (I’m from Spain, so spanish dub and original audio) and subtitles. I don’t remember having to select any special option, just pressed REC.

My TV receives Close Captioned subs, but my DVD recorder can’t record them, so it seems that only transcripting the dialog from the episodes of Gaki will be the far to get the CC.

As far as I know, CC are received only by TV sets that have the option for that, but other than that, we don’t have anything else like that.

It seems that there are multiple subtitle formats on TV

We have the old ones. You can only turn them on using the TV and if you record something with them activated it’d be like a hardsub. These are those subtitles used before the digital era, the ones you have using the teletext.

Then the modern subtitles, which is a signal that is sent even if you don’t turn them on and it’s then stored in the video file, but not all recorders add them as a selectable subtitle when you open the video on the PC, they just insert the subtitle data in the video file and you need tools to get the subtitles out: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/ccextractor

There do exist transcripts of each Gaki episode, which seems to be ripped from some kind of stream/broadcast:

Only drawback is the lack of timing, there are a number of people who can do timing for subs though, so it’s mainly more translators needed I think. Machine translation struggles at its best but even moreso with Kansai dialect and there’s sadly no handy dictionary database like [url=http://ejje.weblio.jp/:3k5w9bzu]Ejje[/url:3k5w9bzu] that caters for Kansai, just individual websites with a few choice Kanto<>Kansai comparisons :(

Damn, this Closed Caption and Transcripts are a headache!

lets take this CC covnersation here : http://gaki-no-tsukai.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=5578
this isn’t the right thread
