Downtown Anime?

Anyone suggest any anime that is close to the humor of Downtown no Gaki no Tsukai ya Arahende!! :)

Nichijou has some boke/tsukkomi humour.

edit: and Ichigo Mashimaro

Well, there is an anime by Matsumoto. Sadly, the subbed youtube links are down. Used to be here: http://gaki-no-tsukai.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=452
You can still watch one of them here.

Now that is more in keeping with his own personal wit … Thank You!

People might disagree with me here but if you’re looking for something more surreal where everyone in the dang story is a boke, may I recommend Cromartie Highschool?

It appears to be a LOL MONKEY CHEESE RANDOM comedy show on the surface but a lot of the humour (especially in the original manga) comes from meandering conversations going strange places, which is one of Matsumoto’s favourite things as we all know… The English dub is good too (YES I SAID IT, FIGHT ME)

Also, the opening is simply amazing:

Close to Downtown’s humor? … Well, it isn’t but Downtown makes me laugh alot… the anime that did that the most for me was Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu.

Also, I watched 6 episodes of Kyou-chan. God, that was scary. Had I watched that when I was younger, Kyou-chan would have for sure conjured up nightmares.

I had dowloaded the live action version which was rather looney and fun although a little long … but I’ll keep a eye out for the anime version! Thanks for your recommendation… :)

I guess I meant more in keeping with Matsumoto’s laugh and demeanor … I’ll check out Full Metal Panic as I’ve heard of it but never saw it … I remember old school scary japanese movies like the one featured below the salamander men really creeped me out at a young age!

I second Cromartie High.
Maybe even School Rumble.

Thanks to All!! … I’ll keep searching for these anime favorites … keep suggesting ;)

If you check it out, make sure you watch Fumoffu. Fumoffu is the comedy one.

One of the scenes that made me lose my breath from laughter was this one:

[video:2l88msid]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2resliHQz34&feature=related[/video:2l88msid]

FMP is about a Military guy, who is attending this school to guard the blue haired girl of the show from terrorists. Thing is, EVERYTHING he does, he is 100% military, so he takes even the littlest things to the extreme… from finding a hair on his locker and blowing it up, to holding guns to people’s heads for even thinking bad thoughts. xD…

The clip above is an episode where Sousuke, the lead guy, caused some trouble, putting all the lunchladies out for a week or so. Due to this, the students had to take care of the lunches and such. I forget why, but Mr. Kogure, the PE teacher, is against it, and is trying to sabotage it. It gets priceless.

Very cleverly written I love the character design so much more than american animation of this sort! Thank You for sharing

Wonderful!! :D
I’ll have to look for this one, How long has this been produced?
[video:xaxv4cac]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TE4ttbu_jU[/video:xaxv4cac]

since matsumoto childhood lololol
it is a very interesting anime i love it a lot too 8)

For god’s sake, please, watch GTO = Great Teacher Onizuka.

[video:3ctzwcy2]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CNutWhmlqM[/video:3ctzwcy2]

Look at this masterpiece of opening. Characters are top, and Onizuka is one of 'em. There is probably no chance you won’t like him. The humour is god-like.
Watch it. Now. That’s an order.

ps.: In Japanese and eng subtitles. If you’re watching it with English dub, you should probably kill yourself, or don’t watch Anime at all.

I promise! I’ll track it down and watch then report!! :)

P.S. I never watch anything dubbed unless it’s cheesy and lovable like the film below.

[video:2spxq5lv]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVyRYjJoZfc[/video:2spxq5lv]

But then again watching this with the original Japanese soundtrack gives this film a whole different demeanor

i watched it during my childhood with local dub, thnking back i think the anime is out on dvd but i prefer the comic as it is more detailed 8)

Perhaps I may be in luck in looking for a copy manufactured in Hong Kong that may have English subtitles … let me know if you see any ;)

GTO was also indeed good. Probably closest anime to the Highschool Batsu game. :stuck_out_tongue:

Also, I watched Kyou-chan ages ago, and I just realized it now, this episode…hilarous. Matsumoto appears, all pretty, nice, has all the girls, bes nice to the kid, has a cool car, and doesn’t get attacked by Kyou. "Hama-chan" comes in, a jackass, pretty girls leave, ugly girls come, causes trouble, and with respect, Matsumoto doesn’t kill Hamada, he has him crapped upon. Also want to guess the girls having big lips plays in effect here too. xD

That’s more amusing now. xD
